About Me

Hi! My name is Shastina Leonard. I am a writer and researcher and was unusually named after a volcano. From the time of childhood, I have had a strong interest in writing, TV, film, storytelling, art, technology, photography, and publishing. 

 

Currently, I am working on a graphic novel with an artist (and my amazing partner). It has been a project we started a long time ago and the story has changed so much from when we first began. Our lives have even changed and we braved a pandemic, but throughout everything one thing stayed the same. This was the drive to finish what we started and have something we could give to people. 

 

It has definitely been a challenge and there is much more to do in order to finish it. But, I tend to be up for challenges. Part of the enjoyment for me is figuring things out. 

 

Going to comic book conventions for awhile with my family and also being a vendor at them has been a constant reminder to stick with it. And, writing for this medium has always been something I wanted to learn and one day have my name on. 

 

Being a production assistant, a script coordinator, a writer's researcher, and writing comedy for national TV and Radio has inspired me to work on my craft. Growing up I never thought I would ever be able to do any of this for a living so I’m extremely grateful for the work that I get. 

 

If you are reading this and working in a creative field, you know it can be rewarding, but it takes a lot of hard work and persistence and even then there are no guarantees. This means putting oneself out there, being prepared, enduring the lows, not being too high on your highs, having the right timing, talking to lots of people, and creating new material that hopefully people will want and like. That’s a tall order for a very short person (me). 

 

What has encouraged me along my journey is realizing I have an ear for comedy because surprisingly it has helped me find my voice.  Writing comedy is something I found I love doing so I continue to hone this skill in order to develop it.  

 

My hope with this site and my blog is to be able to produce more content and make this a home base that people can visit if they are interested in any of my material.
